It's Friday now, but last week, on Saturday night, I FaceTimed my uncle, not realizing that the call would be displayed on the TV in my grandma's house. Everyone watched, I didn't know where to make eye contact or who was looking at the TV, there was a disconnect between who I saw and who was seeing me, though in a way I felt like I was there. I could so picture what it was like to be there during this time. It was nice to be called in. I remember hoping that I'd be able to do that a few more times.
Then, on Sunday night, I recieve a text from my mom -- my grandma will be traveling to the east coast on Tuesday. When I called, my mom announced "We are throwing caution to the wind!". What a free-spirited thing to say. Throwing caution to the wind. I could hear my grandma in the background, and wondered how she felt about this "caution to the wind" approach. I suppose at that point, whatever you say goes.
On that Sunday I worked at the museum, there was a talk about Helene Schjerfbeck, which was interesting. I was the stage manager, meaning I wore a headset and watched everything happen. When I returned home, I was greeted with a vision of summer -- the windows were open, that fresh-air smell in the house, I loved it. I called L in Brazil as I ate a sweet potato, and before long R and N walked in the door. "Gotta go!" I hung up the phone. Then, another phone call, B and E -- engaged! So exciting.
R and N and I set out for the apple store, adjusting the straps of R's backpack on the way, lovingly teasing... N and I left not long after arriving at the store, dropping R off and venturing out to look at an old building, and then to dave and busters, somewhat as a joke, but also it was fun. N made a video that I now keep on my desktop. The apple store actually turned out to be a whole thing, so we headed back. I was able to somewhat feel confident in my AV knowledge, as I was able to understand what the person there was saying about HDMI connection and extended displays.
On Tuesday too, in my class, I felt good about my AV knowledge -- I spent a long while on the floor with the cables until the computer/monitor/projector set up functioned properly -- though maybe it only stopped working because I tripped over that cable... (unclear). Well, either way, I felt good about it.
But, after leaving the Apple Store, Rach stopped to pick up a rotisserie chicken and I headed home to start on the rest of dinner and called S, hearing some stories from her life and chatting a bit about mine too...
And then it was that night that we found out that grandma would soon be east coast bound!
The next day at work, Monday, was fun. I saw M and J, B brought in cookies for us, it was a spring-like day, and the IV drip still dripped on down from the ceiling. After work on Monday I went over to Ace to pick up some woodworking scheming items (Rach knows about it now), and came home just in time to draw a bit before D came over for dinner.
It was nice to see him. We all hung out. He brought an awesome lemon sorbet. It was fun.
Tuesday was class, and up to Stamford to see grandma. Tuesday was the bluest blue sky day. On Tuesday Rach and I went to the library to do homework, and then went for a frozen yogurt walk, and then off to class. I took the train from Grand Central, and Rach met us all up there the next day.
Everyone was there -- Mom, Grandma, and Kait -- to pick me up from the train station. I could hardly believe it. In that moment I already knew that future trips to Stamford Station will now have the beautiful memory of being greeted by grandma's shining face!
Soon, I'll write about the trip, but now, time to get ready!
